This pattern fits babies 0-3 months old. Waist measurement is approximately 12". If you require more, simply ch more at the beginning.
-
ch at beginning of the row counts as first st.
-
If you would like to make the edging fancier, or make a Santa Diaper Cover, use the bobble st when starting the edging along the top of the diaper cover. It looks so CUTE! You will find instructions for the bobble edging at the end of the pattern.
-
If you would like to make the straps look like a Santa Belt, I will include a pattern at the bottom to make the belt strap and belt buckle and you can sew it onto the straps.

That's it! You're all done! Now you'll want to make a matching hat. right? Click here for my free Newborn Santa Hat pattern (coming soon).
If you would like to add the bobble stitch edging, follow my pattern below.

Buttons: Make sure you choose buttons that fit through the button loops. Too big or too small could ruin your work. Fold the diaper cover closed and mark where your buttons shold go on the front flap. Generally, because the straps are short, I place the center of my buttons on about the 3rd stitch.
Sew the buttons on VERY WELL. You don't want them to come off and become a choking hazard for the baby.
Don't have two matching buttons? Crochet your own buttons! Click here for my free Crochet Buttons pattern (coming soon!) It's so easy!

Bobble Stitch Edging: Turn your work so that the wrong side (the inside of the diaper cover) is facing you and the front flap is at the top. Join white yarn in top of far right corner. SC in first st. Bobble in next st (see stitch instructions above diaper cover pattern). SC in next st. *Bobble in next st, sc in next st. Rep * to end of row. FO. Weave in ends.

Row 2: dc in ea st across, ch 2, turn
Row 3: dc in ea st across, FO. Weave in that tail, but not the 6"-8" tail from the beginning ch.
Buckle:
Round 1: Count in 9 sts from the right and join Red Heart Wheat yarn in 9th st, ch 1. sc in next 10 sts, leaving the last 8 st unworked. ch 7. If the ch 7 doesn't reach the bottom of the belt strap and lay flat, ch more until it does.
Flip the work upside down (turn it until the bottom of the belt strap is now facing up). count in 9 sts from the right and join the end of the ch 7 to the 9th st with a sc. Then sc in next 10 sts, ch 7, flip work upside down again, join the end of the ch 7 to the first beginning ch. ch 1
